Daniel Susskind
Mercers’ School of Business at Gresham College, Memorial Professor
Digital Tech, Blockchain · Fintech, Business

Daniel Susskind is a world-renowned economist and bestselling author who studies the impact of artificial intelligence and technological progress on jobs, economic growth, and social structures. He earned his DPhil in Economics from the University of Oxford and previously served as a policy adviser in the UK Prime Minister’s Strategy Unit and the Cabinet Office. He is currently a Professor at Gresham College and a Digital Fellow at the Stanford Digital Economy Lab. He also serves as a Senior Research Associate at the Institute for Ethics in AI at the University of Oxford, an Associate Member of the Department of Economics at the University of Oxford, a Research Professor at King’s College London, and a member of the UK Government’s Expert Panel on AI and the Future of Work.

He gained international recognition through his books The Future of the Professions and A World Without Work, in which he foresaw a future where even white-collar and professional occupations would be automated. His latest book, Growth: A Reckoning, was selected as one of former U.S. President Barack Obama’s Books of the Year. His forthcoming book, What Should My Children Do? , is scheduled for publication in 2026.

Through his lectures, he offers practical guidance on how individuals and parents can thrive amid the rapid transformation of the labor market as AI increasingly replaces work once considered uniquely human. He also explains a 21st-century AI-driven growth strategy in which investment in technology and new institutions, rather than the 20th-century model centered on investment in human education, becomes the primary engine of economic growth. Furthermore, he examines the limitations of traditional growth models that have contributed to climate change and inequality, while exploring ways to distribute technological prosperity more fairly and to regulate the power of major technology companies. Grounded in rigorous data and historical context, Susskind cuts through fear and exaggerated narratives, helping audiences prepare for the future with clarity, practicality, and a balanced perspective.
