Justin King is one of the UK’s most celebrated retailers. He is best known for his hugely successful decade as CEO of Sainsbury’s (2004 - 2014). King took over the UK supermarket chain in troubled times. Tesco’s dominance threatened all its rivals and Sainsbury’s was amongst those struggling to survive. Previously the UK’s largest supermarket, it had lost its way. King restored its reputation for quality, focused its brand image and got the basics right. He recognised online shopping trends early and ensured Sainsbury’s was ahead of the curve. Previously an executive with Marks & Spencer and international FMCG groups Pepsi Cola and Mars, King is a hugely experienced businessman and brand builder. He has also worked in private equity as vice chairman at Terra Firma.
