Dr. Benjamin Strauss serves as President, CEO and Chief Scientist at Climate Central. He has authored numerous scientific papers and reports on sea-level rise and is the architect of the Surging Seas suite of maps, tools, and visualizations. Strauss has testified before the U.S. Senate and presented to federal, state, and local elected officials. His research and Surging Seas have been covered by national and international publications, such as the New York Times, Washington Post, AP, Reuters, Bloomberg, The Guardian and USA Today, leading to appearances in more than 10,000 stories, and more than 100 million page views for Surging Seas. He has appeared as an expert on national network news, nationally syndicated radio, and documentary television.
In earlier roles at Climate Central, Dr. Strauss served as Chief Scientist, VP for Sea Level and Climate Impacts, COO, and other leadership and scientific positions. A founding board member of Grist.org, he previously helped launch the Environmental Leadership Program. Prior to that, Dr. Strauss worked for Abt Associates, co-organized the Campus Earth Summit, and authored a report on college environmental education and practices for the Nathan Cummings Foundation. He holds a Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Princeton University, an M.S. in Zoology from the University of Washington, and a B.A. in Biology from Yale University.
