Hyeon-do Park is a leading Middle East expert who has conducted in-depth research in religious studies and Islamic studies. He graduated from Sogang University with a degree in Religious Studies, completed his master’s degree and doctoral coursework in Islamic Studies at McGill University’s Institute of Islamic Studies in Canada, and earned his Ph.D. in Islamic Studies from the University of Tehran in Iran. After serving as a research professor at the Institute of Middle East Studies at Myongji University, he currently serves as a research professor at the Euro-MENA Research Institute at Sogang University.

His work extends beyond purely religious domains to comprehensively address contemporary Middle Eastern politics, economics, social issues, and international affairs. He has provided expert insights for government and institutional policymaking, having served as a policy advisory committee member for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a specialist member of the Middle East Research Committee at the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP), and an advisory member for national condition information at the Ministry of Justice.

His publications include his standalone book, In Defense of Islam, as well as co-authored works such as Speaking of IS, Islam in the World, and 10 Years After the Arab Spring, along with numerous translations of constitutions from Islamic nations.
