Called "One of the most interesting entrepreneurs (I"ve) ever met" by President Bill Clinton, Blake Mycoskie founded TOMS seven years ago after a trip to Argentina, where he witnessed the hardships faced by children growing up without shoes. His idea for the One for One model has turned into a global movement, with many businesses following his approach to philanthropy.
Blake recently announced TOMS" commitment to support local shoe manufacturing in Haiti at the Clinton Global Initiative"s (CGI) annual meeting. As part of the CGI commitment called "Large Scale Shoe Production and Job Creation in Haiti," TOMS will work in Haiti for a minimum of five years to produce millions of TOMS Giving Shoes and to help establish and support the growth of a responsible and sustainable shoe industry in Haiti. TOMS commitment not only will create jobs, but also will help provide healthcare, education and early childhood support that can promote lasting change in these communities.
To date, TOMS has given over 10 million pairs of shoes to children in need around the world. As TOMS maintains its efforts to support global communities, Blake will continue spreading his message to others in an effort to encourage socially-minded businesses and consumers.
